Plans and opportunities on how and where to see the October 2023 and April 2024 solar eclipses in the United States will be discussed as well as tours that one could join. The talk will be given by Paul D. Maley of the NASA Johnson Space Center Astronomical Society who has led 49 expeditions worldwide to see such eclipses!
No scientific background is necessary to join any of these trips which are primarily for adults. He will also describe arrangements for the longest total eclipse of the century in Egypt in 2027. Paul currently holds the world record for having seen more solar eclipses than anyone in history.
Paul D. Maley has lived in Carefree since 2016 after retiring from various jobs at the NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) in Houston. He is an avid amateur astronomer and served as expedition coordinator for the JSC Astronomical Society (JSCAS) since 1969; he has traveled to 306 countries and territories, run half marathons on all 7 continents and specializes in observations of eclipses of stars by asteroids as well as studies of artificial Earth satellites. He has published science photos in National Geographic, Sky and Telescope, Aviation Week & Space Technology, and had videos shown on CNN, ABC News, CBS News, and Discovery Channel. He organizes and leads tours to see solar eclipses and Northern Lights as part of public outreach activities of the JSCAS.
