Program Description
Event Details
Jan Downey is the daughter and granddaughter of a German-Jewish family, some of whom managed to escape the Nazi’s “Final Solution.” Jan will present her family’s ordeal and escape and will show original family documents the Nazis defiled, and others related to their escape from Germany and their refugee status in the United States.
An artist and tailor in Germany, Jan’s grandfather loved painting and photography. Once safe in this country, he created an amazing collection of small dolls representing the countries invaded by Hitler. You will see the dolls at the presentation, as well as photographs of the original display Jan’s father and grandfather built in appreciation of this country that took them in.
After a fulfilling career as a cultural anthropologist, Jan turned to her other passion, the arts. She works out of her home studio and is represented by The Finer Arts Gallery in Cave Creek, Arizona.
