Event Details
Southern California Art Exhibit is a unique look at 3 established artists from Southern California, which after World War II, became the world center for contemporary art.
Come view the paintings and meet the artists on January 13th from 2:00 - 5:00 pm.
Jeff Leader's "Los Angeles Remembered" captures memories of times long past when he grew up in Hollywood and Los Angeles. A graduate of the Chouinard Art Institute, located in Los Angeles, Jeff studied with world renown artists. While exhibiting his own works later on, Jeff transitioned to Hollywood show business where he worked on movies, television, and commercials. Jeff moved to Cave Creek 3 years ago and continues to create his unique Paintings which are in many private collections throughout the country and sold at fine art auctions.
Bill Matthies "Intrinsic Landscapes" intent is to have his works appear both from the outside of the picture plane and the inside simultaneously. The negative space in his works intentionally evoke deceptive clouds. Space is sometimes broken with the precision of tree branches burnt and twisted while at other times blossoming growth of conifers on a hill. Bill emigrated from Germany at the age of nine. While in 8th grade, he received 2 scholarships from the Chouinard Art Institute. Bill now lives in Riverside County, California.
Beate Bermann-Enn "Gardens of the Mind". Beate's artistic journey began in Berlin, where she completed her education and then moved to the vibrant cultural scene of the "Big Apple" in 1964. Beate finally settled in California in 1969 where she earned a B.A. in Painting and Drawing from California State University and a M.A in Art History. For 2 decades Beate painted and exhibited her works in LA where she also founded the Thinking Eye Gallery and later co-founded and co-owned the Southern California gallery guide ArtScene. After 3 decades of teaching Art History at Mesa College, Beate retired and has returned to her passion for painting.
The Southern California Art Exhibit runs from January 13 - February 26 and is located both in the Arizona Room and the hallway just outside the Arizona Room.
Meet and Greet the artists: Monday, January 13 from 2:00-5:00 pm. Free.
