Event Details

By most accounts, the revolution in Artificial Intelligence (AI) has only just begun. What is the current state of AI and what does it mean for humanity? This presentation will provide a general introduction into what AI currently can and cannot do. We will also explore some of the philosophical questions that AI raises. What are the ethical concerns about using AI? What about privacy concerns? What does AI mean for our jobs? Will we be threatened by a robot apocalypse? And what, ultimately, does it mean to be human in the age of AI?

Matthew has a Ph.D. in Philosophy and has taught environmental ethics, media ethics, and technology and human values at Northern Arizona University, Coconino Community College, and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Matthew recently participated in a National Endowment for Humanities summer seminar on extending Aldo Leopold's "Land Ethic." He is co-founder of Sedona Philosophy, which offers guided hikes and retreats in Sedona and Northern Arizona.
