Program Description

Event Details

First published in 1796, Amelia Simmons’s American Cookery holds the distinction of being the very first cookbook written by an American for American kitchens. The First Truly American Cookbook - A Culinary Landmark!

Join us for A Taste of 1796! Enjoy some modern day versions of the traditional puddings, pies, roasted meats, preserves and more as we celebrate the ingredients and methods unique to the American experience and the ingenuity and resourcefulness of early American cooks.

As we enjoy our tasty treats, participants can test their knowledge of the culinary traditions that shaped early America. The interactive trivia format explores the ingredients, cooking methods, and dining customs of the colonial and post-revolutionary periods. Let’s have some fun!
